At Home He's a Tourist

So it was the afternoon so I got a pint of Cherry Garcia and went home to listen to the radio and eat ice cream. I decided to be productive so I tuned into the New Afternoon Show. I love the New Afternoon Show. I wish it was the New 24 hours, 7 days a week show, so I wouldn't have to change the dial. I can't get WFMU uptown (what's up with that new transmitter?) so the only good music stations are CBS and The New Afternoon Show. The New Afternoon Show is challenging, they play all the new, most cred indie bands and labels in all the indie genres except hip-hop, hip hop has it's own show. I'm also prepared to hear a lot of new things when I listen because if I think I have an in depth ear to the world of indie rock, I quickly realize I'm only listening to the tip of the iceberg. I mean no joke the D.J.'s and program manager are indie music genius. The first band on sounds like Confusion is Sex Sonic Youth, then some new wave lite bands. I hear a commercial for another show and the narrator sounds like Werner Herzog. I love his jungle movies. I saw Grizzly Man on Sundance and it was awesome. Then when Dashan and I were at Preston's , Preston showed us a documentary Herzog did about a volcano and it was an exact copy of the Grizzly Man format so it was funny, he should do a documentary each week for Saturday Night Live. Grizzly Man would have been better if it only had footage the Grizzly Man shot in sequence with his rant filming, no Herzog, I mean who really cares what Herzog thinks about the Grizzly Man, the film should be for us to decide, that's why it's called a documentary. I think they could have ended it with the Death By Audio, I mean why not, The Grizzly Man would want it that way. I mean he had the guts to be in most volatile Bear Run at the most volatile time of bear season. I fell bad for his girlfriend, she was killed as well and she keeps telling him to leave. I noticed they had Bear Barrels, they could have run into those to be safe, but maybe the barrels were for supplies and they would have suffocated if they hid in them . The Smith Westerns song Dreams is really good and was released 2 years ago, so that's an oldie for WNYU, the D. J. even said so, but I'm glad she played it, it's a great song. THe next song is awesome, I think It's Woods, and speaking of oldies it chimes like The Byrds. This is going to be a good segment. I knew it the next song lofi/ V.U. / Yo La Tengo style, awesome. I'm shocked the next song is that super bright Animal Collective trill style, I think it is Animal Collective, I mean I know their influential and have done a lot of good for the NYC music scene, but I don't think their music is listenable, I think their music is good for credit card advertisements, but I guess that's why they're great. Singer songwriter relaxation, good stuff, into some freakfolk rock, wow this band is awesome. They do the Eight Miles High riff but they change it half way through. You can really hear how influential the Byrds are, and they were really a great band. Metal Mountains - The Golden Tree's that Shad us, Flicker Within Without. Spector Folk - The Blackest Medicine. Woods - Any Other Day. The other band wasn't Animal Collective. The next song is going to be from a live show at White Columns. Juliana Barwich and Ikue Mori. This is good experimental music, electronically generated chimes, springs, and some mediation vocals ,you hear the digital rain in the rainforest with the insects and reptiles and birds. This reminds me of the SYR Records, I don't have any experimental music, any experimental music I know has been filtered through Sonic Youth. This is a great track.... To be continued....
