The open stage at the Sidewalk has taken place every Monday for 17 years and for many performers continues to be the gateway to a wider scene that exists at the venue and throughout NYC. Here are the basics:
All ages are welcome to perform.
There is no cover.
Everyone gets a chance to perform.
Sign-up is at 7:30pm. It is a random number drawing.
Sign-up closes/performances begin at 8pm.
The MC’s name is Ben.
Your stage time is your time: sing, rap, recite, set up your pedals, tell jokes, eat a live bat…it’s all welcome.
Each performer gets 2 songs/8 minutes (whichever comes first).
The backline includes the piano, 3 microphones and 2 DI inputs with cables. The house drums are not part of the Monday backline.
There is no house guitar, but musicians have never had a problem borrowing one.
You may bring anything else with you that can be set up quickly.
We can play CD or iPod backing tracks.
There is a one-song wonder round each night, which speeds things along about a third of the way through the evening.
Kindly support the club by purchasing food and/or observing the one drink minimum (soda/coffee/tea/PBR starts at $3).
