Damn, that's crazy, wasn't
Damn, that's crazy, wasn't expecting that for a couple more decades at least... Not that I'm the biggest Slits fan (they're no X-Ray Spex by any stretch) but still... Actually I just recently bought a Slits album that I'd never heard before, live in Paris in 1978 or something like that, a lot punkier than their more reggae-sounding studio stuff.
my first band bionic finger actually played at brownies (remember that place?) with the slits (and the hissyfits and palomar) think it was for ladyfest new york...Ari up was was out of her mind, with snake like hair, charismatic, compelling, beautiful in a hot pink miniskirt that didn't cover her butt. like at all.
she kept waiting for her band to show up. it was pure performance art. she was pacing the stage razzing the audience in the mic...laughing and whooping and getting mad at her tardy band members.
there were horn players and half the band wandering around on stage...just waiting for her to begin.
and the music when it started was very groovy. very reggae.
i don't remember much about that night but i definitely remember HER!
