Matt - I wanted to add this to the Nov 3rd Sidewalk event posting, but Chris that made that one and therefore I can't add an update. How do you prefer we add things like that? Here? One thing I liked about the old board is that a pitch for a show could often result in a bunch of "I'm sooo there" responses that got people excited for an event.

Anyway, for now, folks, here is my addendum to this Wednesday's Nov 3 show at Sidewalk
---------

This of you coming to the Sidewalk this Wednesday are probably planning to check out the Happy Rappies, Johnny Dydo or Jon Glovin (maybe me?). I wanted to give a quick shout out to the two acts you may not know:

The Barnyard Boys are a fantastic trio that played Sidewalk a few months ago and blew everyone away. They have a zillion great songs: Guided By Voices if they grew up on Long Island eating too many cheese burgers and dressing like Sha Na Na. Highly recommended.

http://www.myspace.com/thebarnyardboys I like "Don't Disrespect the Wizard"

Also, kicking off the night is La Loop, the stage name for Annie Levy who plays in Peter Dizozza's band. She's fantastic and shouldn't be missed. [no website link available]

Also, Alex P--who is usually behind the board and plays his own brand of roots rock songs--is DJing in between sets as Gil Damage. He's a studio geek and has concocted some really cool avant-garde tape loop stuff.

It's going to be a good one...hope to c some of you there!

Wednesday, November 3: YOSSARIAN FEEDBACK PRESENTS "A Night of Weird and Kooky Stuff" 7:30-La Loop (feat. Annie Levy), 8:15 - Johnny Dydo, 9:30-The Barnyard Boys, 10:15-The Happy Rappies, 11-Jon Glovin, 11:45-Yossarian Feedback. All night in between sets: Tape-loop DJ experiments by Gill Damage

Yeah, I would say just update

Yeah, I would say just update your "events" post. I know in this special case both you and chris posted for the same show before I got a chance to approve either of them. So I just used his because of the fun pic. You might wanna send him this info and ask him to update the event info.

I think it's cool to post here about your gig if there is some kind of special, last minute info, but I'd like people to stay out of the habit of using the forum to post their gigs because personally I feel like it kind of mucks it up and I find it depressing when I only hear from certain people for this purpose only. With that being said I'd like to encourage any and all people connected to OJ to post their gigs to the calendar. I'd like to get people more in the habit of checking out the calendar more for fun shows.

Perhaps there is an option for comments with the calendar so people can discuss particular events there? I'll ask Dibs. Thanks

Ideally, it would be great if there is a 'post update hub' where we can follow along with comments that have been added to the forum, blog posts or event updates. Or even just a comment/reply ticker like we have for the forum. I like the idea of simple jumping off points where I can follow updates all over the site from the opening page. I have no idea if this takes a day of design work or a year, though...

here's an example i just noticed:

I just went to the blog page to look at the entries and noticed that comments have built up there that I don't know about. There's little chance that I'll go and look at the comments for older, outdated posts. I would have checked earlier on if I'd known about them.

When I go to the main site sometimes and look at the forum I think to myself, "huh, there hasn't been any activity in a day." But that's not true - there has been activity in the comments section of the blogs. It would be great if when I first come to the site I can see tickers/basic info about activity that has been going on all over the site. Then it doesn't seem like I have to lift a bunch of stones to discover the life within.

I can understand the "muck it up" feeling. I think that more than anything else, the site should clearly show evidence of all the community activity on the main page...if that can be done in an unmucky way.
