Podcast?
Hello-I am trying to add some audio files to my blogspot blog for a podcast kind of thing which hopefully can be listened to from the blog. These are interviews I've done/am doing with Sidewalk performers. Does anyone know from a technical point of view how to do this? I gather I first need someplace to store the files and then they can be linked to the blog. Any suggestions appreciated.
Herb, here is link to my friend Jonny's podcast/blog in Edinburgh. It's really good! He would probably know a lot about this. You might wanna email him or post something on the podcast? http://edinburghman.com/
If you find anything out please share. I was thinking I wanted to start a podcast on the OJ site and I wanted to see how to go about that. Thanks
MMM
Hi Herb,
Generally I use a website called ipadio for hosting my podcast files. It's at:
It's totally free for individuals. You just upload the audio file, create a description and it provides a feed that's already suitable for subscribing to in a podcast application. They also have an embeddable audio player that you can cut-and-paste into a blog post. The only problem I see with it is that it's a new start company (although they've been around for a couple of years), so how long they remain (and remain free) is anyone's guess. I like them though, because they're somewhat left-leaning, and their web/community guy does a weekly liberal podcast called The Pod Delusion which is also hosted on ipadio.
I'm a member of the Association of Music Podcasting, and many of the other podcasters in the association are planning on moving (or have already moved) their content over to archive.org, so that might be a good option too. Especially if you're keen on archiving for posterity. I believe archive.org also has a podcast friendly feed, and yet again is free.
There are lots of other possibilities. Including posterous.com - which is really easy to set up a blog on. It can also cross-post to blogger/blogspot, and if you add an audio file to an entry it automatically gets added to a podcast feed. It's also free, but they have a 2GB total storage limit, which is the only real downside.
Having said all that I've recently moved my podcast over to bluehost.com. My package cost $3.95 a month (prepaid for 2 years) but gives me Wordpress hosting, unlimited storage/bandwidth, and a custom domain. That's probably overkill for what you're suggesting, but when it comes down to it I'm a nerd, and I like have total control, and detailed stats.
Hope some of this rambling helps!
Jonny
You could probably put them on soundcloud.com
Maybe?
