After a supposed “sting operation” targeting NPR executives was debunked last week, right-wing members of Congress have once again proven their willingness to overlook the truth in their ruthless pursuit of a destructive ideological agenda. House Republicans voted today to completely defund NPR. It’s now up to the Senate to save public broadcasting.

We can’t let NPR fall victim to a right-wing hit job. Sign our emergency petition to urge the Senate to save NPR!

Federal funding is a small part of NPR’s budget, but it’s what keeps hundreds of stations in rural and low-income areas up and running…ensuring that all Americans have access to the high quality, reliable news NPR provides. Like many of the Republicans’ planned budget cuts, cuts to NPR would hit low-income Americans hardest…while weakening a critical American institution.

When more and more Americans are getting their news from biased and overtly political sources like FOX News, it’s more important than ever that we fight to save responsible, reliable news that’s insulated from the demands of corporate America. Right-wing politicians have for years had a bone to pick with NPR’s unwillingness to bend to political pressure. We can’t let them use a flimsy excuse to shut it down.

Right-wing members of Congress say they care about fixing the budget crisis. Instead, they’re spending their time going after tiny slices of the federal budget that make a big impact on the daily lives of Americans, while continuing to give massive government hand-outs to corporations and the wealthy. Tell your senators to say no to another right-wing hit job, and to stand up for public broadcasting.

Don’t let the Right pull the plug on public radio. Add your name to the petition today!

More substantial reasons why this is a very important issue...

This was in the Opinion section of the Washington Post today.
