Family or close friend visits NYC. They're not from NYC, but are competent navigators.
Do you meet them at the airport?

Not usually. JFK is super easy to my place with the Airtram. I love that thing. It's a $7 trip from my place to JFK now. Newark and La Guardia are a bit more tricky. Sometimes I meet people at the bus station if they're coming from those either of those other airports. But most trips to my place are fairly straight forward. Brooklyn might be a bit more tricky depending on where you live.

I usually meet my visitors at the airport, especially if it's their first time here. But I have a car...

Depends on the Person

I would ask myself, "If I were them, would I appreciate being met, or would I just as soon get there on my own and not have them come all the way out here?"

Barry has a good point. Maybe the best thing to do is just ask them.

$

Perhaps this sounds like an incredible waste of money, but I always offer to pay for their cab to my place.
Headache avoided.
It's $25 to my place from both airports and since I'm usually super excited to see them, I don't mind paying the fare.
