In the NYC area? My new bank doesn't do it. I never know if I'm getting a good rate or what? Is it possible that one gives a better rate than the other? Any input helpful...

I do it with Chase

They are often 2 or 3 cents better than Bank of America.

You have to have an account there.

I have had trouble getting the "market rate" at any bank. From my experience it's much better to exchange in the country where the currency is local.

I know there are some specific "currency exchange" like Travelex but I have never used them.

Yes. I wrote this.

There's a place on 33rd St...

There's a place on 33rd St just east of Madison Sq Garden, seems to have some of the best rates around. It's a little sketchy, cuz it's a weird little computer shop that almost seems like a junk store, with a money exchange booth somewhat randomly included, but I suppose they cater to tourists staying at the nearby giant Pennsylvania Hotel.
If you want more info, like their exact address or phone number, drop me a line and I'll find more specific info.
