It's not for me
I like Matt's comment. Personally I don't use it or want to.
I do know a guy who is using it for a funny purpose: To raise money to go to LA and profess his love for Avril Lavigne. All virtue aside, I like that his obsession with her has lead to an artistic endeavor. And thus, a fundraising campaign. It's like the whole project wouldn't have been conceived without kickstarter.
Not a huge fan personally but it seems to work for some. I prefer a good old fashion fundraiser party or something like that.
