I personally love my Lanikai LU-21BE... it's not too expensive, but still a real instrument, not a toy. You can buy them online for $130 - 150. I've had it for over a year, and it's going strong, even with all the rough treatment I give it. I recently played some very expensive ones at guitar center, and mandolin bros, and I thought mine sounded better.
