Sick of Santa Baby
I'm in Myrtle Beach, SC with my Dad, Sis, and Niece (Lulu) and we just spent the day walking around strip malls and looking at baby clothes. Of course the Christmas music is in full affect at all these stores and the song that I keep hearing in almost every store we go is "Santa Baby." I swear I've heard this song at least six times in the past 4 days. There appears to be several different versions of it as well. A hip hop version, country etc... The original Ertha Kit version is the best but I have to say I'm developing a literal gag reflex to hearing this song. Sorry to be a humbug but there's something about hearing all that joke materialism and sexual innuendo combined with cute Santa imagery while perusing the Baby OshKosh outlet store with all the other fat white people a tad unsettling.
Lulu's too precious!
Thank your sis for me and next come you're in SC come a little further south to Charleston!
Happy Christmas & all the rest to you, Nan, and your families. :)
luluuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, Matt, you're right. Santa Baby sucks.
Even worse is " I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," which, if you read the lyrics, makes it clear that the child A) thinks that Santa and daddy are NOT the same person and B) thinks it would be funny to see her dad WATCH mom kissing Santa. Which is a little weird.
There are basically two types of Christmas songs: sacred ones that celebrate the birth of Jesus (and they are usually better) and the secular ones that deal with Santa or the Christmas holiday (a more mixed bag).
Awesome Xmas songs include:
Joy to the World
Oh Holy Night
Little Drummer Boy
White Christmas
Winter Wonderland
The Messiah
Everyone knows my opinion of Christmas songs because I wrote about them recently:

Im not so big on the "traditional" carols although some are OK. Santa Baby (and a million songs sort of like it) is horrible, of course. It was Phoebe who turned me on to the true creepiness of "Mommy" when she performed it at the Boog Christmas show a few years back.
And then there's this one...it has to be the absolute worst. I have no idea why it's ever still played. I mean, REALLY read those lyrics.
It's Christmas time,
there's no need to be afraid.
At Christmas time
we let in light and banish shade
And in our world of plenty
we can spread a smile of Joy
Throw your arms around the world
at Christmas time.
But say a prayer,
Pray for the other ones.
At Christmas time it's hard
but when you're having fun...
There's a world outside your window
and it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is
the bitter sting of tears
Where the Christmas bells that are ringing
are the clanging chimes of Doom
Well, tonight thank God it's them instead of you.
And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life.
Ohh....
Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?
Here's to you...
Raise a glass for everyone
Here's to them
Underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?
Feed the world...
Feed the world...
Feed the world,
Let them know it's Christmas time again.
Feed the world,
Let them know it's Christmas time again.
(Repeat several times and fade)
When I was away for Xmas we were listening to this on the radio and remarking on how condescending and just plain weird it was. I'm sure Bob and Midge's hearts were in the right place, they just wanted to feed the children. Classic line: "tonight thank God it's them instead of you."
I thought Mommy kissing Santa Clause was mommy making out with some guy the kid had never seen before while, dad was out hunting or something.
hahahahaha
The other way makes more sense I guess, considering they would not have written lyrics for "swingers" I suppose.
Maybe this will fill you with the spirit, and make those Xmas songs more tolerable:
The season is upon us now
A time for gifts and giving
And as the year draws to its close
I think about my living
The Christmas time when I was young,
The magic and the wonder,
But colors dull and candles dim,
And dark my standing under
O little Lulu, shining light
You've set my soul to dreaming
You've given back my joy in life
And filled me with new meaning
A Savior King was born that day,
A baby just like you,
And as the Magi came with gifts,
I come with my gift too
That peace on Earth fills up your time,
That brotherhood surrounds you.
That you may know the warmth of love,
And wrap it all around you
It's just a wish, a dream I'm told
From days when I was young
Merry Christmas, little Lulu
Merry Christmas, everyone
Merry Christmas, little Lulu
Merry Christmas, everyone.
Yes, its me. You may now genuflect.
