Tis The Season

picture:

This is my slogan for the rest of the year. I can't think of a better sentiment for the coming holiday season. If there is a silver lining to the daunting act of buying your way out of a depression I believe this sign captures it. Purchasing power has the ability to spread even more positive energy beyond the giver and getter. The benefits of putting a little more thought into where your purchases come from and how they are made are many fold. It might even be helpful, if you are one of those "hard to shop for" gift receivers, to point your potential benefactor in the right direction as well. That could be a present in itself. Post your favorite Small Local Merchant suggestions or experiences for Holiday Shopping this year. Also you can go here and discuss it more in depth on the OJ forum: http://www.olivejuicemusic.com/forum/2011/10/17/1628 Here's to all of us getting what we want this year.

Go see your favorte band and pay them.

A band kind of like a small business. If a band you like is playing a gig near you why not buy a ticket and help support them? You can bring a friend and make a night of it. Of course it's fun when bands play for free but why not go up to them after the show and see if you can purchase some of their music. And if you already have it give it to a friend. Music a a great holiday gift idea.

Before you hit the new clothes store, consider the Thrift Store on 4th avenue around 11th street.
I needed some nylon long running pants that go for between $15 and $60 new.
Got like new ones (Adidas) for $5.99.

New book out you are excited to read?
Strand Books on Broadway and 12th street
They have new releases sometimes for half price--and if they don't have it one day, check back. People sell books to them most everyday.
You can check their stock online.

Go on their site, see what they have. Have a book you'd like sent to the branch most convenient to you.
They do it for free and email you when it's ready to be picked up.
